Q&A WITH @bigbunbernie
1. What’s the first thing people say when they see your giant rabbit?
“I knew they were big but I didn’t realise they were this big!”
2. How does your bunny’s size affect your daily routine?
3. What’s the funniest or most surprising thing your bunny has done because of its size?
Bernie just acts like a dog. If we have friends or family over he’ll hop up to everyone to greet them and nudge them until he gets head rubs. He’ll be in the centre of the room making sure all attention is on him. My buns are also very confident around cats/dogs. A little too confident with our own cat, the poor thing is always being chased by a giant bunny if she gets in the way!
4. Have you ever had to “rabbit-proof” anything in a unique way because of their size or strength?
5. How do you keep up with their hay and food demands—do they eat more than you expected?
6. What’s one thing you wish people knew about owning a giant rabbit?
9. What kind of housing or setup do you have to accommodate your giant bunny?
10. Does your bunny have any “special requests” for comfort or care?
11. Have you always planned to get a giant rabbit?

Breeder
1. What’s the first thing people say when they see your giant rabbit?
2. How does your bunny’s size affect your daily routine?
He requires a different diet, so he is on unlimited pellets so that means ensuring he always has food as he is growing until he is 18 months old. He poos a lot more needing his litter tray being cleaned twice a day!
3. What’s the funniest or most surprising thing your bunny has done because of its size?
Archie thinks he is a cat so spends most of his time following the cats, binkying with them and trying tk eat their food! He shares their water and doesn't understand why the food is off limits!
4. Have you ever had to “rabbit-proof” anything in a unique way because of their size or strength?
We have made his pen higher to ensure he doesn't jump out and some castles/tunnels have been too small so had to remove them for safety.
5. Does your bunny have any unusual quirks or habits that you’ve never seen in smaller rabbits?
6. How do you keep up with their hay and food demands—do they eat more than you expected?
7. What’s one thing you wish people knew about owning a giant rabbit?
9. What kind of housing or setup do you have to accommodate your giant bunny?
10. Does your bunny have any “special requests” for comfort or care?
11. Are there any funny stories about how friends or family reacted to your rabbit’s size?

faqs
Q: What is a giant rabbit?
A: A giant rabbit typically refers to any of the larger breeds of domestic rabbits that can weigh over 10 pounds, with some even surpassing 20 pounds. The most well-known giant breed is the Flemish Giant.
Q: How big do giant rabbits get?
A: Depending on the breed, giant rabbits can reach lengths of about 2.5 feet (76 cm) and often weigh between 15 to 20 pounds (6.8 to 9 kg). Some exceptional individuals can grow even larger.
Q: How long do giant rabbits live?
A: With proper care, giant rabbits can live anywhere from 5 to 8 years on average, though some may live longer. Good nutrition, regular veterinary care, and a safe, clean environment all contribute to a longer lifespan.
Q: Are giant rabbits good pets?
A: Giant rabbits can make wonderful pets for the right owner. They are known for their docile and friendly personalities, but they require ample space, proper housing, a healthy diet, and regular grooming. They’re best suited for experienced rabbit owners who understand their care needs.
Q: What do giant rabbits eat?
A: Like all rabbits, giant breeds need a balanced diet primarily consisting of high-quality hay, fresh leafy greens, and a limited amount of pellets. They also benefit from occasional treats like small pieces of carrot or apple. Ensuring constant access to fresh water is crucial.
Q: How much space do giant rabbits need?
A: Giant rabbits require significantly more space than smaller breeds. Ideally, they should have a large indoor enclosure or a spacious outdoor run that allows them to stand up on their hind legs, hop around freely, and stretch out fully. Many owners also let their giant rabbits roam safely indoors, provided it’s rabbit-proofed.
Q: Do giant rabbits require special grooming?
A: While giant rabbits have similar grooming needs to smaller breeds, their size can make tasks like brushing, nail trimming, and health checks a bit more challenging. Regular grooming helps prevent fur matting, detect health issues early, and maintain a clean coat.
Q: Are giant rabbits good with children?
A: Giant rabbits can be good family pets, but adult supervision is important. Their large size makes them less fragile than smaller rabbits, but they still must be handled gently. Teaching children how to properly interact with and care for the rabbit ensures a positive, safe relationship.
Q: Can giant rabbits live with other pets?
A: Giant rabbits can sometimes coexist peacefully with other gentle, well-behaved pets like cats or calm dogs. Introductions should be slow, controlled, and closely supervised to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable.
Q: How often should giant rabbits visit a vet?
A: Annual check-ups with a rabbit-savvy veterinarian are recommended for giant rabbits. Regular veterinary care can help detect health problems early, ensure proper dental care, and provide guidance on nutrition and general wellness.
